Kaiako at Harbour View Kindergarten
Kia ora tatou and welcome to Harbour View Kindergarten.
I came to Aotearoa 23 years ago, and it is such a pleasure to settle in a country full of creative and friendly people.
My family have been involved in the education sector for generations, so with an interest in early childhood education, I took the family path and became a qualified ECE teacher in 2010.
I find it fascinating to watch how children learn and explore the world - with positivities and possibilities in everything, and I enjoy learning alongside them each and every day. I believe as educators our job is not only about teaching, but also how we can assist tamariki in realising their true potential, and grow the confidence to lead their own learning.
We are delighted to have you as part of our kindy community, and I look forward to meeting you.

Kia ora everyone, and welcome to Harbour View Kindergarten.
I grew up in China and went to the States when I was 19, to study in the University of Oregon. I came to New Zealand after graduation and settled here with James, and now we have a happy family with our daughters and our Labrador retriever.
James and I are passionate about being kaiako, and the more I listen to children and watch them play, the more I realise how important it is for us to provide an environment that can assist children’s learning and meet their developmental needs. Seeing our tamariki playing and learning with a smile on their faces is what we are proud of, as well as what we are always trying to achieve here at Harbour View Kindy.

Tamia Liu (Registered Teacher)

I am a new teacher in Harbour View Kindergarten, Bonnie. I am a qualified and registered teacher and have 5 years of early childhood education experience in New Zealand.
About 10 years ago, I read a book about travelling in New Zealand. I was deeply attracted by the natural scenery and customs of New Zealand. From that moment on, I had the idea of coming to New Zealand. In 2019, my husband and I came to New Zealand and are currently settling in Sunnynook, Auckland.
I love early childhood education and hope to bring better educational experiences to children by constantly improving my professional teaching. My teaching philosophy is as follows: I believe that all the children are competent and confident learners. They have their own learning dispositions and use their unique perspectives to explore the world. Teachers are scaffolders on the path of children’s learning and development. We use professional practice to plan for a safe, high-quality teaching and learning environment. Only Tamariki, Kaiako, and Whānau build a respectful, reciprocal, and responsive relationship, can Tamariki’s learning and development be supported to the greatest extent.

Lisa Li (Registered Teacher)
My name is Lisa and I'm the new qualified teacher in Harbour View Kindergarten. I am originally from China and immigrated to Aotearoa in 2019. I live with my husband, our 11-year-old boy , and Milky, our westipoo girl, in Greenhithe.
I am a fully registered kaiako and have been working in ECE in NZ for the past 4 years. I had 2 years of full time working experience and another 2 years working as a relief teacher. Both experience enabled me to grow my knowledge of ECE and enhanced my daily practices when I work along with children. My teaching phylosophy is based on building secure, respectful and reciprocal relationship with tamariki and their whānau as I believe children learn best through connections.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing tennis, touch rugby and hiking with my family and friends. Currently I work on every Tuesday and Wednesday and occasionaly some other days when needed.
I look foward to getting to know all the tamariki and their whānau. See everyone around!

Yuri Xie (Registered Teacher)
My name is Yuri, and I am a teacher in Harbour View Kindergarten. I feel very lucky and excited to join the HVK family. I’m originally from China and came to New Zealand in 2024. I graduated from NZTC with a Graduate Diploma in ECE and became a registered kaiako.
I enjoy the quiet life and natural scenery of New Zealand. Over the past year, I’ve worked as a relief teacher across various centres in Auckland, which has helped me become more adaptable and reflective. These experiences strengthened my belief in the importance of creating warm, inclusive, and culturally responsive environments where every child feels safe, respected, and valued.
I am an easy going person and love to work with the little ones. I aim to build trusting, respectful, and reciprocal relationships with our tamariki and whānau. I view each child as a unique, capable individual, full of potential, curiosity, and creativity. I believe tamariki thrive when they feel a strong sense of belonging.
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, playing badminton, photography, and singing. Walking along the seaside or spending time with friends makes me feel relaxed. I love capturing small, beautiful moments through my camera lens. I look forward to getting to know all the tamariki and whānau, and being part of your children’s learning journey.
Kia ora! My name is Grace, and I am delighted to be part of Harbour View Kindergarten. I have a background in early childhood education and a deep passion for nurturing young minds.
I believe that every child is unique and learns best through play, exploration, and positive relationships. My goal as an early childhood teacher is to create a warm, inclusive, and stimulating environment where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to grow.
In my teaching, I incorporate elements of Te Whāriki, New Zealand’s early childhood curriculum, to support children’s holistic development—emotionally, socially, physically, and intellectually. I also embrace cultural diversity and enjoy integrating different traditions, languages, and perspectives into our learning experiences.
I am excited to work alongside children, families, and my fellow educators to create meaningful learning experiences. I look forward to getting to know you all and making this journey a joyful one for every child!
